Summary
The review of these unit standards was initiated as part of their planned review cycle and the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ) for Engineering and Technology triggered in 2011. New standards were developed to meet the needs for the electricity supply sector’s new qualification.
A sector working group with industry and relevant stakeholders was formed for collaboration about the unit standards outcomes to ensure that the new standards met current and future needs for power technicians. Meetings were held to review the existing unit standards. It was decided to expire these standards as they have been difficult to achieve, and develop new replacement standards. Industry feedback was sought on the draft standards and amendments made to the final versions.
Main changes
· 19 unit standards were designated expiring without replacement.
· 18 new unit standards were developed.
Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2019
