Summary

This standard was reviewed at the request of The Skills Organisation and the Crane Association of New Zealand as part of an initiative to improve safety and make training in cranes more consistent.

A working group, consisting of infrastructure industry representatives, met twice in 2016 to discuss and agree on changes to outcomes, performance criteria, and guidance information.  The standard was then circulated throughout wider industry for consultation and feedback.  The final standard was signed off by industry representatives in February 2017, however, submission was delayed allowing for registration of the prerequisite standard Unit 30072, Demonstrate and apply knowledge of slinging regular loads safely.

Main changes

· Standard 20875 has been replaced by standard 30442 as it was determined holders of previous versions would not have the same set of skills and knowledge as holders of the new version.

· The level increased from Level 2 to Level 3.

· Prerequisite standard 30072 was added.

· Reference to slinging was removed throughout the standard, including the title.

· Legislation, references and other guidance information were updated.

· A new outcome covering establishing weight and included lifting angle of an object to be lifted was added.

This Category C unit standard will expire at the end of December 2018
