Summary
The New Māori Dance and New Māori Music unit standards were reviewed as part of their review cycle to ensure they are relevant and fit for purpose, and that their outcomes are achievable, coherent, and consistent with valid assessment practices.
The Whakaruruhau met in September 2016 to review the standards. Due to the low uptake of these standards the Whakaruruhau, citing feedback from subject matter experts, recommended grades be added to the standards as an incentive for secondary school students studying Māori Performing Arts at Levels 1-3.
The new versions of the standards were finalised and endorsed by the Whakaruruhau.
Main changes
· Merit and Excellence grades were included in standards 22759 and 22760.
· The titles of unit standards 22760 and 22761 were changed to better reflect the standards’ outcomes.
· The level of standard 22761 was changed to better reflect the simplicity of the evidence required.
· Changes to the purpose statements, explanatory notes, outcomes, and evidence requirements were made to ensure clarity for users.
