Replacement qualification
Date new versions published May 2018
The next qualification review is planned to take place by 30 June 2023.
Summary of review and consultation process
The Electrotechnology sector qualifications were reviewed as part of the mandatory targeted review process, and approval to develop was given in August 2015. Subsequently the Electronic Security sector developed the above replacement qualification during 2017 and 2018.
The review process included broad consultation with industry and training provider stakeholders to ensure that the new qualification meets current and future needs. The review resulted in the recommendation that the national qualifications listed above should be replaced by a single New Zealand qualification with optional strands.
Main changes resulting from the review
National Certificate in Electronic Security (Systems Installation) (Level 3) [Ref: 1632], and
National Certificate in Electronic Security (Level 4) [Ref: 0788]
replaced by
New Zealand Certificate in Electronic Security (Level 4) with optional strands in Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (Endorsed) and Electrical Installer [Ref: 3818]

People currently working towards one of the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2021 or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand Certificate.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to The Skills Organisation at the address below:
