The NZQA Māori Qualifications Services has completed the review of the assessment standards listed above.
Date new versions published November 2018
Planned review date December 2023
Summary
An opportunity was taken for the Whakaruruhau to review the Tikanga unit standards before they were due. The majority of the unit standards were amended to ensure that they are still relevant and fit for purpose, and that their outcomes are achievable, coherent, and consistent with valid assessment practices.
In addressing issues identified during the review process, the Whakaruruhau recommended that four unit standards (6149, 16055, 16060 and 16067), which were deemed not fit for purpose, be expired.
The last date for assessment of superseded versions of the reviewed standards is 31 December 2020. Results will not be accepted where the assessment date is after the last date for assessment of superseded versions of the unit standards.
The Tikanga Whakaruruhau were approached by the Manaaki Marae Whakaruruhau to assist with the development of five new unit standards. The standards were developed to align with outcomes in the Levels 2 and 3 New Zealand Certificates in Manaaki Marae, but are best suited in the Tikanga subfield.
Main changes
· The titles of unit standards 16042, 16051, 16054, 16140, 16143, 16151 and 16201 were changed in line with amendments made to the standards’ outcomes.
· The level of unit standard 16201 was decreased to better reflect the complexity of tasks required for assessment.
· Credit values for unit standards 16046 and 16201 were increased to better reflect the time required for learning and assessment.
· The guidance information for all standards was updated, including adding information about, and a definition for, tikanga.
· Changes to outcomes, performance criteria, and range statements were made to ensure clarity for users.
· Changes to purpose statements were made to ensure consistency with titles and outcomes.
· Unit standards 6149, 16055, 16060 and 16067 were designated expiring with no replacements.
Category D assessment standards will expire at the end of December 2019
