Competenz has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published October 2018
Planned review date December 2023
Summary
These unit standards were reviewed at the request of the Mechanical Building Services industry (previously known as Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning, or HVAC industry) to remove some technical content that was deemed not applicable to HVAC engineers and update other content to align with current trade skill and knowledge requirements.
Extensive industry consultation was carried out to complete the review and the changes were endorsed by the Mechanical Building Services industry and Competenz.
Main changes
· Outcome 3 and the title of unit standard 26327 were changed to require the skills to be demonstrated on the job, under supervision. The term HVAC was replaced with mechanical building services throughout the unit.
· Unit standards 26332 and 26334 were reviewed to update the term ‘on-site measurement’ to ‘site measure’.
· Unit standard 26331 was added as a recommended entry to unit standard 26332.
· Unit standard 26333 was reviewed to delete the requirement to coordinate with other trades and add compliance with manufacturer’s specifications and industry practice.
· Unit standard 26335 had an outcome added to cover knowledge of the structural elements of a building and the procedures for mounting components to a building’s structure.
· Unit standard 31142 was reviewed to remove knowledge of refrigerants that is not required by HVAC engineers and add identification and safe handling of refrigerants. The unit standard title was changed to better align with the reviewed content. A last date for assessment of version 1 was specified (31 December 2018).
