Summary

The Skills Organisation and the cranes sector stakeholders held five meetings to discuss the graduate outcomes and conditions that had to be met for the New Zealand Certificate in Cranes (Level 4) with strands in Advanced Dogman, Crawler Crane, Mini Crane, Mobile Crane, Non-Slewing Articulated Crane, and Tower Crane [Ref: 3731].  The unit standards were reviewed to meet the safety standards and recently updated industry approved code of practice for the cranes sector.

Main changes

·      Standard 30072 had changes made to the Guidance Information to state that a minimum of two slinging examples were to be observed by the assessor.

·      Outcome 3 of standard 30072 was updated to make it a theory outcome and the performance criteria and range statements were also amended to reflect this intent.

·      The level 4 standards in this review have a new Guidance Information added which recommended that the new standard, 31904, Plan and document lifts of regular and irregular loads using multiple cranes should be completed prior to working with the strand specific unit standard.

·      Unit standards 26505 and 27676 have had title changes.

·      Credit for unit standard 26505 increased from 15 to 20 and the level was corrected from 3 to 4.

·      The unit standards that have the outcome ‘configure and use’ a crane have had a performance criterion added which is about the completion of a lift plan.

·      Two new unit standards, 31902 and 31903, were developed to support the qualification Graduate Outcome 1 on the health and safety of workers and organisational compliance with HSWA.

·      A new unit standard, 31904, on planning and documenting regular and irregular loads using multiple cranes was developed for the Level 4 qualification.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2021
