Summary

The revision was required to remove a barrier to completion for trainees.  Feedback from consent to assess holders, and workplace assessors indicated that trainees in some industry sectors do not have the opportunity to complete all the requirements of unit standard 25003.

Main changes

· The requirement to assess a horse’s action at walk and trot in outcome 2 was removed as not all industry sectors have horses available where both gaits can be assessed.  The focus of the performance criteria is now to assess a horse’s action, and this may be on a lead while walking or trotting, or while moving freely in a yard or paddock.

· The requirement to identify the site of lameness was changed to theory as not all trainees have the opportunity to handle the horses to achieve this performance criteria.
