Change to expiry of Occupational Health and Safety Practice unit standard 20645

Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Health and Safety Practice

The Skills Organisation has completed the change to expiry of the unit standard listed above.

Date new version published                                                                 August 2019

In 2019, WorkSafe NZ approached The Skills Organisation (Skills) requesting unit standard 20645 be expired earlier for health and safety concerns where hazardous substances are used in workplaces.

Hazardous substances in the workplace are regulated by the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.  Due to legislation changes, competence requirements of unit standard 20645 no longer meet current legislation requirements, and the health and safety of workers could be compromised as a result.

Skills consulted via email with organisations holding consent to assess for the standard and did not receive any objection to changing this date.

Main changes

·      Unit standard 20645 was set to expire earlier than originally set to expire.  The last date for assessment was brought forward from 31 December 2022 to 31 December 2019 for all versions of the standard.
