Review of Telecommunications qualification

 

New Zealand Certificate in Telecommunications (Level 4) with strands in Access Network Technologies; Core Network Technologies; Radio/Wireless Technologies; Signals and Communications; Telecommunications Design; and Telecommunications Technical Service Desk [Ref: 2200]

 

The Infrastructure ITO (Connexis) has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2023.

 

Summary of review and consultation process

 

Recognition of Infrastructure Industry Training Organisation (Connexis) coverage for Telecommunications came into effect from 17 October 2016.  Industry requested a review of the Skills Organisation qualification listed above.  In light of recent technological changes in this industry, the skills and knowledge described in the qualification were reviewed for alignment and to ensure the graduate profile outcomes were relevant for the telecommunications industry.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·         The Skills Organisation New Zealand qualification was replaced with the Connexis qualification;

·         The Skills Organisation qualification will be discontinued.

Transition

 

The last date for entry into programmes leading to [Ref: 2200] is 31 December 2019.

 

The last date for assessments to take place for [Ref: 2200] is 31 December 2020, at which time the qualification will be discontinued.

 

People currently working towards the achievement of Ref: 2200 may either complete the requirements for that qualification by 31 December 2020 or transfer to the replacement qualification [Ref: 3970].

 

Any new enrolments will be into the replacement qualification [Ref: 3970].

 

It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to Connexis at the address below.  Appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Category A
