The Skills Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                               January 2019

Planned review date                                                                              December 2023

Summary

The review of these unit standards was initiated through their planned review date and the listing of the New Zealand Certificate in Electronic Security (Level 4) with optional strands in Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (Endorsed), and Electrical Installer [Ref: 3818].

The unit standards were reviewed to ensure that they are fit for purpose, relevant to the Electrical Engineering and the Electronic Security industries and are readily available for assessment.  Industry representatives from the Electronic Security industry and qualification development review groups were involved in the review and writing of these unit standards and provided feedback on the unit standards.

New unit standards were created to address the skill gaps in the existing set of unit standards, which will ensure that the new Electronic Security qualification is achievable through unit standards.

Four unit standards were replaced (review Category C).  Credit values for the four replaced unit standards were updated to more accurately reflect the time required to achieve the outcomes and related evidence requirements.

Seven unit standards were not fit for purpose (review Category D), and were set to expire in December 2021.  The expiry date is also the last date of assessment for the National Certificate in Electronic Security (Level 4) [Ref: 0788] and the National Certificate in Electronic Security (Systems Installation) (Level 3) [Ref: 1632], which contain these unit standards.

Main changes

·      Four unit standards were designated expiring and replaced by four new unit standards.

·      Unit standards 5882, 5886, 20592-20594, 26839, and 26840 were designated expiring without replacement; these are not fit for purpose and are not required by the industry.

·      Seven new unit standards were developed to address the skills gap in the suite of unit standards.

Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2021

Impact on Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR)

On expiry of the unit standards in December 2021, Appendix 1 of CMR 0003 will be amended to exclude unit standard 20594 from the table of ‘high risk’ unit standards.
