Summary

The Skills Organisation, in partnership with stakeholders within the security sector, have reviewed unit standards within the security domains.  This was conducted through a series of face-to-face meetings throughout 2017 and 2018 at the conclusion of the targeted review of qualifications for the security sector.

Main changes

·      Unit standards with duplicate or irrelevant content, or 0 to low usage were expired with no replacement;

·      Level 2 units were increased to Level 3 where this was deemed appropriate.  This was to better reflect the nature of the workplace.

·      Credit values for standards 21110, 27357 and 31604 were increased to better reflect the time it takes for learning, practice and assessment to occur, and to take into account the expiration of other security unit standards with duplicate outcomes.

·      Standard 6519 was replaced by a new standard to better reflect industry needs.

·      Health Care specific legislation appropriate to security work was added to all unit standards in the Security Staff Services domain.

·      Unit standards were reworded for clarity.

·      Titles were changed for five standards.

Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2021

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B standards is December 2021
