NZQA National Qualifications Services has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published June 2019
Summary
The review has led to the decision to expire these unit standards.
An analysis of usage including stakeholder input regarding current and intended future use of higher level ECE and PIECE standards was undertaken. These standards have had declining results reported in the past five years, and this usage seems related to expiring qualifications.
In addition to direct communications with current and past providers of the standards to check intentions, a full stakeholder consultation process on the proposal to expire the standards was undertaken in November-December 2018.
Feedback supported the expiry of these standards, although there was some regret expressed about the loss of this pathway for Pasifika ECE. It was acknowledged that the nature of New Zealand qualifications allows for contextualisation in a range of contexts, and there was confidence that learners will continue to have pathways available to them in Pasifika ECE.
Main changes
· expiry of the unit standards without replacement
· consequential expiry of CMR 0157 and CMR 0182 from 31 December 2021
· consequential expiry of subfield – Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education from 31 December 2021.
These Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2021
