Summary

Throughout 2018 and 2019, The Skills Organisation (Skills) conducted a review of the unit standards listed above.  The review of these standards was initiated following the listing of the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Installation and Service) (Level 4) with strands in Domestic Systems and Products, Commercial Equipment, and Consumer Electronics [NZQF Ref 2768].

Industry representatives from the electrical appliance servicing sector and Skills’ Working Group were involved in the review and writing of these unit standards and provided feedback on the unit standards.  This is to ensure that the new unit standards are fit for purpose and are relevant to the appliance servicing sector.

Main changes

·      Unit standard 20591 was updated to reflect changes to references and legislation.

·      Unit standard 22763 was updated to identify which unit standards are prerequisites and which are recommended units for entry.  The type of repairs was changed to standard repairs, to clearly show progression of knowledge to complex repairs in unit standards 31736, 31739, and 31740.

·      Nine new unit standards were developed to meet the needs of the industry to ensure unit standards remain relevant to technological changes in the industry.

·      Unit standard 22764 was designated expiring without formal replacement.  Unit standards 31736, 31739, and 31740 have been recommended as alternatives.

The Category D unit standard will expire at the end of December 2021

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2021
