Summary of review and consultation process

Trainees, graduates and employers were surveyed in May 2019. These responses, achievement data, and an industry overview were considered at a meeting of industry representatives in June 2019.

Recommendations from this meeting were circulated for comment in July and review outcomes were confirmed.

Main changes resulting from the review

· All qualifications were updated to the current qualification template, and minor wording changes made to Strategic Purpose and Graduate Profile Outcome statements for currency and clarity.

· Strands for Drinking-water and Wastewater were added to the New Zealand Certificate in Water Treatment (Small Scale Systems) (Level 3) [Ref: 2240];

· The New Zealand Certificate in Water Treatment (Level 4) [Ref: 2242] was separated into new qualifications:

New Zealand Certificate in Drinking-water Treatment (Level 4) with an optional strand in Multistage Processes [Ref: 4138]

New Zealand Certificate in Wastewater Treatment (Level 4) with an optional strand in Multistage Processes [Ref: 4142].

· The New Zealand Diploma in Water Treatment (Level 5) [Ref: 2245] was separated into new qualifications:

New Zealand Diploma in Drinking-water Treatment (Level 5) [Ref: 4139]

New Zealand Diploma in Wastewater Treatment (Level 5) [Ref: 4143]. 

· The New Zealand Certificate in Water Treatment (Level 3) with strands in Drinking-water and Wastewater [Ref: 2241] and the New Zealand Diploma in Drinking Water Assessment [Ref: 2244] were deemed no longer fit for purpose and will be discontinued.
