Summary

The review was conducted in conjunction with the review of the qualifications for this sector, and the development of programmes later this year, leading to the:

• New Zealand Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 2) with strands in Finger Jointing; Laminating; Pole, Post and Pile; Sawmilling; Timber Drying and Treatment; Timber Grading; Timber Machining; and Wood Pallet Manufacturing [Ref 1967],
• New Zealand Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 3) with strands in Finger Jointing; Pole, Post and Pile; Saw Doctoring; Sawmilling; Timber Drying; Timber Grading and Optimising; Timber Machining; and Timber Treatment [Ref: 1969], and
• New Zealand Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 4) with strands in Laminating, Timber Drying, Timber Grading, and Timber Treatment [Ref: 1973].

All stockholders in the sector have been either consulted or communicated with.

All feedback received prior to and during the review process was incorporated and endorsed for registration by the Technical Advisory Group in January 2020.

All other unit standards in this domain are being reviewed.

Main changes

· Unit standard 18964 was set to expire as it is no longer required.

· Guidance Information, Outcomes, and Performance Criteria were updated to reflect current industry practices in wood manufacturing industry sector.

· Unit standards were updated to align with current template.

· Titles have been updated where required.

· Last date for assessment for earlier versions of unit standard 15056 was added.

The Category D unit standard will expire at the end of December 2020
