Date new versions published March 2020
Planned review date December 2024
Summary
The review was conducted in conjunction with the review of the qualifications for this sector, and the development of programmes later this year leading to the following qualifications:
· New Zealand Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 2) with strands in Finger Jointing; Laminating; Pole, Post and Pile; Sawmilling; Timber Drying and Treatment; Timber Grading; Timber Machining; and Wood Pallet Manufacturing [Ref: 1967];
· New Zealand Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 3) with strands in Finger Jointing; Pole, Post and Pile; Saw Doctoring; Sawmilling; Timber Drying; Timber Grading and Optimising; Timber Machining; and Timber Treatment [Ref: 1969]; and
· New Zealand Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 4) with strands in Laminating, Timber Drying, Timber Grading, and Timber Treatment [Ref: 1973].
Competenz had taken over the responsibility for these unit standards from the Forest Industry Training and Education Council (FITEC) in 2013 as part of the mergers of industry training organisations (ITOs).
The review was undertaken in May and November 2019 through face-to-face meetings with the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), which consists of industry experts, and via email and skype with industry representatives. All stakeholders were advised via email, Sector Advisory Group meetings, and Competenz Training Advisors.
\
All feedback received prior to and during the review process were incorporated and endorsed for registration by the TAG in November 2019.
Main changes
· Guidance Information, Outcomes and Performance criteria were updated to reflect current industry practices.
· Expired unit standard 20026 was reinstated and credit increased to 10. Industry has determined that there is now a need for this standard and that credit value was too low for the time taken to acquire the required skills.
· Credits for unit standards 20022, 20023, and 20025 were increased to reflect the time taken to gain knowledge and skills.
· Title of unit standard 20024 was amended to include pole products.
Impact on Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR)
Unit standards were moved to CMR 0013 from CMR 0173.
