Summary of review and consultation process

This qualification was reviewed early at the request of the Security industry to meet the changes in skills needs within the industry. Employers, providers and the New Zealand Security Association were represented on the Working Group for the review of the qualification.

Wider industry consultation was also undertaken through the bi-monthly meetings of the Security Industry Special Interest Group (SiG) on the reviewed qualification.

Main changes resulting from the review

• The qualification graduate outcomes were amended to update the knowledge and skills required of an advanced security guard and to meet current industry good practice guidelines.
• Knowledge and skills for the use of defensive techniques while doing security work was added to Graduate Outcome 3.
• Graduate Outcome 4 was amended to include leadership skills, legislation and industry standards which support the assessment of this outcome. The legislation and industry standards were added to the ‘Other requirements of the qualification’.
• Credit value of graduate outcomes 2 and 3 were updated to reflect the time taken to learn and practice the new graduate outcome.
• Programme entry requirements were added in the General conditions of the qualification.
