Summary of review and consultation process

The scheduled review of this Trowel Trade qualification commenced in 2020. The review included a broad consultation with industry stakeholders to ensure that current and future needs of the trowel trade industry were met.

Consultation for the review included BCITO National Advisory Groups, sub-sector Working Groups to represent each strand, and wider consultation emails and surveys with key stakeholders.

The industry confirmed that the qualification remains fit for purpose.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         The credit value of the Refractory Installation strand increased from 135 credits to 165 credits. The increase of 30 credits was agreed (i.e. 300 learning hours) was agreed due to the difficulty and technical nature of the trade.

·         Graduate profile outcome statements have been reworked and reworded to add clarity and to make each more practical/active.

·         The role title “specialist operator” was removed from the employment pathways.  The trades that each strand leads to has been added to the employment pathways.
