Summary of review and consultation process |
The review of these qualifications was conducted as part of the scheduled 5-yearly review of qualifications. Consultation for the review was undertaken and included industry focus group meetings; formation of Electrical Consultation Group that met once a month; broad consultation with industry and regulators; wider consultation emails and surveys with key stakeholders, and separate meetings and consultation with relevant training providers. The review resulted in the listing of a new Level 3 qualification that is fit for purpose for the next five years. This new qualification meets industry requirements and was endorsed by training providers. The Level 5 qualification [Ref: 2384] was not being used and was set to expire. Subsequent exploration of shorter, fit for purpose training that will allow the industry to upskill and specialise will be undertaken. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
· The New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 5) [Ref: 2384] was designated expiring without replacement. · The New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory (Level 3) [Ref: 2387] was replaced by a new qualification, the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Pre-Trade (Level 3) [Ref: 4316]. The new qualification focuses on the basic knowledge and practical skills expected of an entry-level tradesman to work safely in the industry and has a distinct title to better align to its content and intent. |
