Summary of review and consultation process

Representatives of the Transmission Industry requested an early review of this qualification in late 2019 because it did not meet the training needs of the industry.

Feedback, graduate numbers and enrolment data were discussed at the Electricity Supply Reference Group meeting held in February 2020. This information was used to inform proposed amendments to the qualification.

The reviewed qualification and consultation questions were published on Connexis’ website and the wider group of stakeholders informed by email. Amendments were endorsed by the Reference Group.

Main changes resulting from the review

·           The Strategic Purpose Statement was revised to clarify the scope of work for line mechanics and structure maintainers.

·           The words ‘or entering’ were removed from the Strategic Purpose statement.

·           The New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply (Introductory) (Level 2) [Ref: 2136] with strands in Electricity Supply and Telecommunications was added as an entry recommendation and into the education pathway.

·           The credit value of the qualification was reduced significantly from 147-154 credits to 90-100 credits because 900-1000 notional learning hours more accurately reflects the time taken to train transmission line mechanics and structure maintainers.

·           Graduate Profile Outcomes were reworded to clarify their intent and to differentiate between the strands more clearly.

·           An additional GPO was added to the core section of the qualification, recognising the common tasks performed by all line maintainers, and the credit values were revised to reflect the change.

·           The qualification specifications were updated, including clarifying the reference to the Electricity Workers Registration Board.

·           Programme conditions on Graduate Profile Outcomes were removed.
