Summary of review and consultation process |
The Skills Organisation has completed a review of the suite of Industrial Measurement and Control qualifications as part of a scheduled review. Consultation took place with representatives from across the industry and with Waikato Institute of Technology as the only provider with programme approval. The consultation concluded that the qualifications required some changes to be made to reflect current industry practice and health and safety requirements. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
All graduate profile conditions have been removed from the suite of qualifications. Context was added to graduate profile outcomes across the suite of qualifications. New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Practice) (Level 4) [Ref: 2251] - The credits of graduate profile outcomes 2 and 3 were changed to reflect more emphasis on diagnosing and correcting faults in control systems which supports the skills needed in industry today. - A new graduate profile outcome was added to highlight the importance of health and safety and compliance requirements in the industry. Previously this content was embedded in unit standards delivered as part of a registered programme. New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Theory) (Level 4) [Ref: 2252] - Changes were made to the graduate profile outcomes to better reflect current learning needs required by industry. - Principles of electrical and electronic theory and practice has been removed as this knowledge is now recommended to have been completed via a course of study covering fundamental electrical theory prior to programme enrolment. - A new graduate profile outcome was introduced to highlight the importance of an understanding of industrial processes such as when working as a plant maintenance technician. New Zealand Certificate in Process Control and Automation (Level 5) with strands in Process Control, and Process Automation [Ref: 2253] - Title of qualification changed to New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Level 5) with strands in Process Control, and Process Automation for consistency among the suite of IMC qualifications. The qualification reference stays the same. |
