Summary of review and consultation process

The scheduled review of qualifications was started internally via consultation with Competenz Assessors and Training Advisors in late 2019. An expression of interest to participate in the review was sent to employers, industry experts, and association representatives.

The usage data of each qualification was a key starting point. This was incorporated with ongoing feedback and shared with the Sector Advisory Group.

The first Sector Advisory Group meeting was convened to review the current framework and identify gaps in the current provision.

The second and final Sector Advisory Group meeting was later convened to confirm the changes to the qualifications.  

 

Main changes resulting from the review

•                All qualifications were updated to the current template.

•                Graduate profile outcomes were reviewed for clarity and to meet current technical requirements.

•                Credit values were reviewed and updated where required.

 

New Zealand Certificate in Furniture (Level 3) with strands in Cabinet Making, Furniture Finishing, and Upholstery [Ref: 2781]

·                Addition of a GPO for the Furniture Finishing strand and Upholstery strand to reflect the knowledge of products required for those roles.

New Zealand Certificate in Furniture (Level 4) with strands in Cabinetmaking, Computer Numerical Controlled Machinery (CNC), Furniture Finishing, and Upholstery [Ref: 2782]

·                Removal of the CNC strand due to no usage.

·                Addition of a GPO for costing to each strand to reflect the realities of each role.

·                Introduction of New Zealand Certificate in Furniture (Level 3) with strands in Cabinet Making, Furniture Finishing, and Upholstery [Ref: 2781] as an entry requirement.

Cabinetmaking strand

·                Removal of the GPO for drawing, as the skill set is already covered in New Zealand Certificate in Furniture (Level 3) with strands in Cabinet Making, Furniture Finishing, and Upholstery [Ref: 2781].

Upholstery strand
