Summary of review and consultation process |
|
The review of the New Zealand Diploma in Addiction Studies (Applied) occurred in 2019-2020. It encompassed consultation with stakeholders from the mental health and addiction sector to ensure the qualification met their current and future needs. Feedback from the mental health and addiction sector indicates that the qualification is no longer fit for purpose and does not meet the needs of trainees working as addiction practitioners in clinical settings. The recommendation is that the qualification is expired. |

Main changes resulting from the review |
|
The qualification no longer meets the needs of industry and is no longer fit for purpose. This qualification does not meet the requirements for membership with the Addiction Practitioners' Association Aotearoa New Zealand (Dapaanz).
The recommendation recognises: · That two thirds of the workforce are in clinical roles, which require practitioners to be registered. This qualification would not meet registration requirements. · The addiction sector has been poorly funded and is now experiencing rapid change to meet future addiction service needs. This has meant it was also unclear in establishing all the skills, knowledge and attributes needed at this time. · The qualification has had low graduate numbers. |
