Summary of review and consultation process |
This is a scheduled five yearly review of the manufacturing qualifications. The consultation process included one face-to-face Sector Advisory Group (SAG) meeting with a range of providers, industry groups and individual companies from a variety of manufacturing sub-sectors. The main changes to the qualifications relate to the inclusion or bolstering of ‘soft skills’ which has been called for by industry for some years. These skills are considered essential for the successful introduction of new technology in the various sectors. These skills have not been added to the New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Level 5) [Ref: 2732] although minor wording changes have broadened its outcomes. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
All qualifications have had the following General condition for programme added: · ‘Programmes will typically be achieved in a workplace environment but may include simulated or virtual reality learning or assessment.’ This is in recognition of new technologies being used in a wide range of learning and assessments particularly in companies which are moving towards more mechanised production processes. New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Level 2) [Ref: 2729] · Additional outcome to incorporate ‘soft skills’ ‘Work co-operatively and communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment’ added as outcome 2. · Minor change to the wording of outcome 4. ‘(Follow instructions and) carry out entry level tasks in a manufacturing operation’ – words in brackets removed because this is included in the new outcome 2. New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Level 3) with optional strand in Productivity Improvement [Ref: 2730] · Additional outcome added to incorporate a sense of place within an extended team. · Minor change to the wording of outcome 4. Removed the words ‘and customer’ as they are implicit in the words ‘organisational requirements’. New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Level 4) with an optional strand in Technical Support [Ref: 2731] · Additional outcome added to incorporate collaborative problem solving · Add the scope of outcome 3 to outcome 2 and remove outcome 3 ‘Coordinate one or more stages of a manufacturing operation (meeting daily production, safety and quality requirements)’ Remove: ‘Set up and control equipment to meet daily production, safety and quality requirements of a manufacturing process’ New Zealand Certificate in Manufacturing (Level 5) [Ref: 2732] · Minor wording change to outcome 1 to include ‘environmental impact’. · Removed words in outcome 4 to broaden its purpose: ‘Apply analytical and innovative thinking to develop new ideas.’ (removed…’to improve production efficiency and product quality’). |
