Summary of review and consultation process

The Skills Organisation completed a review of the New Zealand Certificate in Electronic Engineering (Level 4) as part of a scheduled review. In 2019-2020, consultation took place with representatives from the qualification’s main user, Royal New Zealand Navy, and with industry subject matter experts.

The consultation concluded that the qualification required some changes to make it fit for purpose and meet the needs of industry and graduates. The review process took place by face to face consultation, email and phone conversation.

Main changes resulting from the review

· Graduate Profile Outcomes around workplace safety, legislation, standards and company policies and procedures were removed as industry wanted this content to be embedded throughout the entire qualification and not as discrete components.

· Overall credits for the qualification was reduced from 175 to 155 due to the removal of some Graduate Profile Outcomes, and industry feedback that 155 credits was a more accurate reflection of the notional learning hours.

· Conditions relating to the Graduate Profile Outcomes were removed.

· Education Pathway section was updated.

· NZSCED was updated to Electronic Engineering (previously Electrical Engineering).

· General Conditions for Programme section was amended to meet Electrical Workers Registration Board and legislative requirements.
