Primary Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                               September 2020

Planned review date                                                                              December 2025

Summary

The review commenced in May 2020 to take into account changes to qualification graduate outcomes in the New Zealand Certificate in Apiculture (Level 3) [Ref: 2223]; the New Zealand Certificate in Apiculture (Level 4) [Ref: 2224], and the New Zealand Certificate in Apiculture (Queen Bee Rearing) (Level 4) [Ref: 2225].

A working group was formed which is made up of industry representatives nominated by Apiculture New Zealand (ApiNZ).  The working group represented the wider Apiculture industry including queen bee rearing.

Unit standards were sent out to industry stakeholders and all consent to assess holders by online survey in May 2020 and also made available on the ApiNZ website for members to provide feedback.

Feedback was discussed in a meeting with the working group and changes were incorporated where appropriate.  The updated unit standards were finalised in mid-July 2020.

Main changes

·      Unit standards 25895, 30803, and 31613 were designated expiring without replacement as these standards are no longer required.

·      Two new Level 4 unit standards were developed to meet the graduate outcomes of the reviewed qualifications listed above.

·      Titles were amended for several unit standards to better reflect content.

·      Credits increased for several unit standards to reflect the actual learning and assessment time required to achieve competency.

·      Practical unit standard 31610 was designated expiring without replacement since a queen bee rearer is not required to select queen bees.

·      A new unit standard was developed to cover the theoretical aspect of queen bee selection.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2022

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2022
