Summary of review and consultation process

Consultation Process

Stakeholders invited to participate in this review included providers, industry organisations including BCITO National Advisory Groups and construction sector professional bodies.

Consultation was undertaken during August and September 2020.  A collective of providers collaborated to provide feedback for this review. This collective was represented by Otago Polytechnic.

Feedback from industry and providers suggested time on the job and a bank of experience is necessary for a graduate to be effective in both Construction Management and Quantity Surveying.

In response to feedback from industry stakeholders and providers, the changes described below have been reflected in the revised qualification.

Main changes resulting from the review

Changes made to the New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with strands in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying [Ref: 2420]:

·           The Strategic Purpose Statement has been revised to signal graduates of this qualification will be suitable for entry level or assistant roles in industry.

·         The terms small, medium and large buildings have been used more precisely to align with the definitions in the New Zealand Building Code and compliance expectations for each building type.

·         Minor wording changes have been made to graduate profile statements to reflect current industry terminology.

·         An additional qualification outcome has been introduced to recognise the diversity of the New Zealand construction sector workforce and also the need for leadership that supports physical and mental well-being.

·         30 credits from GPOs 6 and 7 have been redistributed to the strands to emphasise the strand specific competencies and weight more fairly the scope of work a new graduate will engage in.
