Skills Active Aotearoa has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published April 2021
Planned review date December 2025
Summary
The scheduled review was conducted in order to ensure these graded unit standards remain fit-for-purpose for use, predominantly in the secondary school sector.
An Expert Advisory Group (EAG) was formed in early 2020 to review the unit standards, following an open Expression of Interest process. The EAG consisted of the Skills Active Industry Development Advisor for Performing Arts, the National Moderator, two representatives of Entertainment Technology New Zealand (as the key industry association), one representative from the Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics sector, one Ministry of Education (MoE) representative, and five current school teachers in this field.
The EAG reviewed the unit standards to ensure they:
- were up to date with current industry practice and expectations,
- met NZQA listing requirements,
- were able to be consistently interpreted and assessed,
- allowed for alignment with the outcomes of the MoE Review of Achievement Standards,
- provided pathways to support school students to successfully pathway into the Level 4 Entertainment and Event Technology apprenticeship (if that is the pathway they choose).
The EAG also looked to fill any identified gaps in the unit standard offerings.
In addition, feedback from stakeholders was invited through an open consultation process. Consultation feedback was considered by members of the EAG and amendments were made in response where appropriate.
The EAG endorsed the reviewed unit standards in December 2020.
Main changes
· Merit and excellence grades were added to unit standards 26690 and 26691 to recognise higher performance levels of the outcomes.
· One unit standard was set to expire without replacement as it is no longer required.
· Six unit standards were replaced by ten new unit standards to better reflect current industry practice and expectations.
· One new unit standard was developed as part of the Generic Production context.
· Four new unit standards were developed to create an Electronic Media context, reflecting the set of skills in electronic media recognised within the Entertainment and Event industry sector.
· Guidance information, purpose statements, grade descriptors, ranges, outcomes, and performance criteria were updated to reflect current industry practice and to provide a meaningful pathway into Entertainment and Event industry qualifications.
· All unit standards moved from the Entertainment and Event Technology domain to the Entertainment and Event Technology and Operations domain.
· Credits for unit standards 10353, 26689, 26690, and 26691 were amended to better reflect the time required for learning and assessment, and to reflect consistency across the production contexts.
· Titles were amended to better reflect outcomes and the Entertainment and Event context.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2022
