Summary of review and consultation process |
The review of Glass and Glazing qualifications was initiated in November 2020 with establishment of three sector specific Review Working Groups from the Glazing, Glass Processing and Automotive Reglazing industries. Each working group was made up of representatives from main centres and regional small, medium and large sector businesses, relevant industry association members and employers with a history of training apprentices. The Working Groups met in January and April 2021 to discuss and agreed with the changes made to each qualification. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
General changes · Qualification Strategic Purpose Statements were amended to reflect changes to graduate profiles and reflect the expectations of graduates. · Qualification Specifications were updated to use standardised wording, where appropriate. · Qualification General Conditions were updated to include current and relevant legislation, standards and guidance information for programme developers. New Zealand Certificate in Glass (Level 3) [Ref: 2944-1] · The qualification will be discontinued as it is no longer required by industry and the three qualification graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) are recognised in the three qualifications listed below. New Zealand Certificate in Glazing (Level 4) with strands in Residential Glazing, Commercial Glazing, and Frameless Glazing [Ref: 2945-1] · The Frameless Glazing strand was removed as these products are not used outside of residential and commercial settings. · The qualification GPOs were amended, and three new GPOs were added to reflect current industry standards of communication, safety, quality, productivity and technical knowledge and skills. · The qualification’s minimum credit value was increased from 103 to 120, and the maximum increased from 133 to 140, this change in credits reflects the introduction of new GPOs. · GPO credits were redistributed to better reflect learning demand. New Zealand Certificate in Glass Processing (Level 4) with optional strands in Manufacturing Insulating Glass Units, Manufacturing Toughened Glass, Manufacturing Screen Printed Glass, Manufacturing Laminated Glass, and Computer Numerical Control Machinery [Ref: 2946-1] · The qualification title and structure were amended, with the GPOs previously included in two optional strands, Manufacturing Insulating Glass Units and Manufacturing Toughened Glass, integrated into the core. · GPOs amended and two new GPOs added to reflect current industry standards of communication, safety, quality, productivity and technical knowledge and skills. · The qualification’s minimum credit value increased from 72 to 125 as a result of additional compulsory outcomes, and total credits increased to 140 with an optional strand. · GPO credit values were redistributed to reflect changes to the qualification structure and to better reflect learning demand across the GPOs. New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Reglazing (Level 3) [Ref: 2947-1] · The NZQF level was raised from Level 3 to Level 4 to reflect the increase in learning demand and the expectation that graduate will be able to operate unsupervised. · GPOs were amended to reflect current industry standards of safety, quality, productivity and technical knowledge and skills. · Qualification total credit value was increased from 106 to 120 to reflect greater learning demand. |
