Summary of review and consultation process

Employers, trainees and graduates of the Power Technician qualification were surveyed in early 2021. This feedback was considered at a meeting of the Electricity Supply Reference Group, together with a report on numbers of enrolments, withdrawals and completions in the review period. Recommendations of this meeting generated by the Reference Group were posted on the Connexis website, and Electricity Supply stakeholders were consulted by Connexis eNews and email.

A second meeting of the Electricity Supply Reference Group discussed the feedback received and revised the qualification outcomes. They supported the changes to the Transmission and Distribution strand.

Main changes resulting from the review

Summary of changes to the qualification

· The qualification was updated to the latest NZQA template.

· Graduate Profile Outcomes 3 and 4 on communication and health and safety were deleted from the qualification in recognition that these are incorporated in the daily tasks of a power technician.

· Credit values have been revised to accurately reflect the skills and knowledge outlined.

Transmission and Distribution strand changes include:

· The strand was divided into two strands, one for Transmission and one for Distribution, and the graduate profile outcomes were revised accordingly;

· The credit value of both strands was increased to 45 credits.
