Connexis has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                               August 2021

Planned review date                                                                              December 2026

Summary

These unit standards were reviewed as part of the response to industry feedback about the programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 3) with an optional strand in Plant Operation [Ref: 3856] and the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Pipeline Construction and Maintenance) (Level 4) with strands in Drinking-water, Stormwater and Wastewater, and Trenchless Technologies [Ref: 3858].  Consultation with stakeholders and those with consent to assess occurred by email and through the Connexis website.

Main changes

·      Theoretical and practical outcomes were separated in unit standards 25445, 31449, 31450, 31451 and 31452, resulting in six new unit standards.

·      The level of unit standards 25445 and 31452 was raised from 3 to 4 in the replaced/reviewed unit standards to align with the complexity of the tasks.

·      Unit standards 31574 and 31575 were combined into a replacement unit standard, and the credit value lowered, to better reflect the job requirements.

·      The wording of unit standards 27328, 31520, 31527 and 31570 was revised and their titles were amended to align with current industry practice.

·      The credit values for unit standards 31520, 31570, 31571 and 31527 were lowered to better reflect the learning hours required for the tasks.

·      Guidance information in all unit standards was updated.  An additional statement was added to the guidance information of Unit 31532 to reference the practical unit standards associated with this theory unit standard.

·      Seven unit standards were designated expiring because they are no longer required for the infrastructure works programmes.

·      Four new unit standards were developed to meet industry requirements.

·      The unit standards were transferred from the Infrastructure Works Utilities, Generic Infrastructure Works, and Water Reticulation domains to the Pipeline Construction and Maintenance domain to align with current industry terminology.

Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2023

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is 31 December 2023.
