Summary of review and consultation process |
MITO commenced an early review of the above qualifications with industry stakeholders after feedback identifying issues was received, to ensure the qualifications accurately reflected the needs of the automotive machining industry. The industry reference group meetings identified that some of the skills and knowledge described in outcomes of these qualifications did not accurately reflect industry requirements, relevant indicative credit values and overall qualification credits. Changes were made to ensure the qualifications accurately reflect the time it takes to progress through to a graduate in the automotive machining field. Further consultation was carried out via email to seek wider feedback from the automotive machining sector. Feedback received was actioned where appropriate. Final stakeholder attestation sign-off from the Automotive Machining industry reference group was obtained once all feedback was taken into consideration. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
Main changes that apply to all reviewed qualifications: • Strategic Purpose Statements and Outcome statements were amended to reflect current industry needs. • Conditions specific to graduate outcomes were removed to reflect current template requirements. • Evidence requirements for assuring consistency were updated. • General conditions for programmes were amended. • Indicative credits for graduate profile outcomes were amended. The following changes specific to each qualification were also made: New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Machining (Level 4) [Ref: 3522] • Credits were reduced from 180 to 150 credits to reflect the expected learning and assessment timeframe. • Graduate profile outcomes were amended and removed where required to align with industry requirements and level descriptors. • The New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3) [Ref: 3097] was removed as a pre-requisite as this placed unnecessary restrictions on learner ability to progress into and through this qualification and complete the qualification. New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Machining (Level 5) [Ref: 3523] • Graduate Profile Outcome 3 was removed as it created ambiguity with the interpretation and was deemed unnecessary. |
