Summary of review and consultation process

Graduates, employers, providers, and Civil Contractors New Zealand (CCNZ) were consulted about the qualifications.

Industry consultation was conducted via the Connexis website, by email, virtual and face to face meetings, and site visits. The Connexis Assessor quarterly and Infrastructure E-News advised assessors and industry about the consultation.

The industry Reference Group of technical advisers and CCNZ members considered the responses, and a consultation feedback summary report was published on the Connexis website to allow for further feedback.

Main changes resulting from the review

Main changes:

The strategic purpose statements, graduate profile outcomes, education pathways, evidence for assuring consistency, and general conditions for the programmes were revised and updated for currency in all three qualifications.

New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 3) with optional strand in Plant Operation (Credits 75-95) [Ref: 3856-1]:

This qualification was reviewed and will expire and be replaced with the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 3) [Ref: 4440].

The New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Civil) (Level 4) with strands in Earthworks, Road Construction, and Road Maintenance (Credits 135) [Ref: 2725-2] and the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Pipeline Construction and Maintenance) (Level 4) with strands in Drinking-Water, Stormwater and Wastewater, and Trenchless Technologies (Credits 160) ]Ref: 3858-1]:

These qualifications were reviewed.

The strategic purpose statement was changed in both qualifications to remove the requirement for graduates to take responsibility for their own work and some responsibility for others.

One of the outcomes of the review is the industry Reference Group and Connexis developed three new qualifications to meet the needs of industry:

-              New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Plant Operations (Level 3) (Credits 80) [Ref: 4436]

-              New Zealand Certificate in Civil Infrastructure Bulk Earthworks (Level 3) (Credits 90) [Ref: 4439]

-              New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Pipe Installation (Level 4) (Credits 120) [Ref: 4441].
