Summary

The unit standards listed above have been reviewed, with the review spanning early November 2020 to late January 2021.

Input and feedback were invited from all providers with consent to assess against the unit standards being reviewed, with web consultation taking place over the proposed changes over a four-week period.  In addition, Careerforce conducted face-to-face and virtual hui with key industry and sector representatives including DHB personnel, Kaupapa Māori organisations and training organisations.  All organisations with trainees enrolled in 28543 in the previous 12 months were also notified and invited to provide feedback online.

Stakeholders agreed that unit standard 28543 was no longer fit for purpose, so it was designated expiring.  Two new replacement unit standards were developed to cover a bi-cultural approach and the implementation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and The Treaty of Waitangi for health and wellbeing settings and the practical application of Māori values to health and wellbeing settings.

Consultation also concluded that the five credits allocated to the expiring standard was not sufficient to reflect the notional learning and assessment time required for the broadened scope and practical requirements of the new standards.
