Summary
Key industry stakeholders involved with the sports turf industry and consent to assess holders who collectively made up the External Working Group (EWG) met by skype in a series of phone discussions between September and November 2020. Unit standards were discussed, and changes recommended to ensure current industry requirements were met. New unit standards were identified to meet gaps.
Unit standards were sent out for stakeholder consultation to consent to assess holders and the wider industry in February 2021 by online survey. Feedback was considered by the Working Group and incorporated where relevant.
Further discussions with the wider primary sector were carried out in March and April to determine the suitability of sports turf unit standards for use across the wider primary industry. Feedback confirmed that one sports turf unit standard was suitable for wider primary industry use and was reclassified.
Main changes
· All unit standards were updated to meet current template requirements.
· 13 unit standards were designated expiring and will not be replaced (Category D) as they are no longer required.
· Six new unit standards were developed to meet specific industry requirements.
· The content of seven unit standards changed significantly. These were designated expiring and replaced (Category C) with six new unit standards.
· 21 unit standards were updated to meet current industry requirements.
· Title of several standards were amended to reflect content.
· Credit for some unit standards were increased to better reflect the time to learn and assess against the requirements of the unit standard.
· Unit standard 1171 was reclassified from Sports Turf Management to Primary Sector Resources Management domain to enable wider use across the primary sectors.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2023
