Summary

The Health and Wellbeing sector was consulted by email and telephone, face to face and using internet communication technology, and through the Careerforce website.  The consultation was undertaken between 2 September 2020 and 12 January 2021.  The organisations which responded to Careerforce’s consultation request included Bupa Quality Management, Oceania Training, Aged Residential Care, IHC New Zealand, Alzheimers NZ, Burwood Hospital – DHB, and Dementia New Zealand.  All other providers with consent to assess delivering the standards were also provided the opportunity to participate in the consultation process, as were internal and external assessor’s and moderators.  The feedback from the consultation was implemented where appropriate.

Main changes

·      The legislation and regulatory requirements were removed from the guidance information because these standards were not being assessed against them.

·      Titles were changed to better reflect the content of the unit standard.

·      The definition for person-centred approach was amended to make it clear that a person-centred approach should include support for relationships where possible.

·      The references were updated, and obsolete references were removed.

·      The credit totals of some unit standards were changed to reflect the re-arranged outcomes (referred below), but the overall credits for the four standards remains the same.

·      Unit standard 23922 was designated expiring because the requirement to provide support to family or whānau presented a barrier to completion for those who did not have access to family or whānau of a person with dementia.  That outcome was redrafted as theory, requiring the expiry and registration of a new standard.  The outcome covering self-management when providing support was moved to unit standard 23921.

The Category C unit standard will expire at the end of December 2023

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2023
