Summary of review and consultation process

The review of the New Zealand Seed Industry qualification initial meeting was held in October 2020.  The development was then put on hold and recommenced in March 2021 which was outside of industry harvest times and therefore allowed External Working Group (EWG) stakeholders to fully participate.

The review commenced with a meeting of the EWG followed by further consultation with the wider seed processing industry sectors to ensure that the updated qualification met their current and future needs.  EWG members had the responsibility of contributing their expertise to qualification updates as well as liaising with their networks on qualification changes over the duration of the review.

Throughout the course of the review there were follow-up discussions with industry representatives via Team meetings and emails.  The qualification was updated with feedback where valid, and final contents agreed by the EWG.  The final draft was signed off by the EWG in June 2021.

The seed processing sectors identified a skills gap at Level 3.  They contributed to the development of a new Level 3 qualification which would allow for a qualification pathway.

The qualification pathway from Level 3 to Level 4 involved consultation meetings with seed processing EWG, development of a Skills Profile and final agreement on qualification content.
