Summary of review and consultation process |
The scheduled review of the New Zealand Certificate in Painting and Decorating was initiated in June 2021 and involved conducting a broad consultation with key stakeholders. The consultation process included a Review Working Group representing employers training apprentices, a recent graduate, painting and decorating-related organisations and businesses, the BCITO Painting and Decorating National Advisory Group (NAG) and programme providers. Stakeholders were given the opportunity to provide their feedback via surveys, meetings, review of relevant documents and follow-up emails. The review confirmed that the existing qualification remains largely fit for purpose and meets the painting and decorating industry’s needs. The industry confirmed that the qualification remains fit for purpose and a new version of the qualification was issued. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
Refinement of the Graduate Profile Outcomes A number of graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) have been broken down into multiple outcomes and/or reworded to clarify the skills and knowledge required of graduates, and the outcomes intended. Changes to credit allocation Credits were redistributed to reflect the changes to graduate outcomes. Credits in the qualification core increased from 120 to 135 credits to reflect the time expected for a graduate to meet the GPOs. This has been reflected in the total qualification credits which have increased from 170 to 185. Change of strand title The Specialised Spraying strand has been re-named Spraying Systems. The change in title clarifies that the strand recognises the use of spraying systems rather than specialised spraying techniques. General minor changes Other sections the qualification document have been updated to provide current and clear information. |
