Summary of review and consultation process |
Consultation took place between January and June 2020. Feedback from the diversional therapy, disability, social services, mental health and addiction and youth-work sectors (representing employers, trainees, graduates, assessors and support workers in community services, NGOs, DHBs, trade unions, government, justice, and programme providers) indicated that the qualification remained fit for purpose and meets the needs of graduates, with some minor amendments. Consultation consisted of four phases: 1. Survey; 2. Face-to-face consultation; 3. Sector advisory groups; 4. Final review of the recommended changes. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
· The qualification was updated to align to the current listing requirements. · Minor changes were made to the qualification title, strategic purpose, education and employment pathway, other requirements of the qualification, general conditions for programmes, and all Graduate Profile Outcomes (GPOs). · Greater clarification of graduate destination resulted in changes made to the strands. Including - o The Community Facilitation strand was removed due to stakeholder feedback where ambiguity of graduate destinations was most significant and the overlap of tasks for some support roles in the community with the social service workforce. o New elective strands in Disability Support and Diversional Therapy were added because the skills are distinct, sufficiently different from other support roles and as a result provides a clear destination for graduates. These were previously included in the Community Facilitation strand. o The Social Services strand was re-named as ‘Whānau, Community and Social Services’ to reflect sector direction changes and the inclusion of information, employment, job seeking and housing support job roles working in the community previously in the Community Facilitation strand. o These strand changes have clarified the destination of graduates working in social and community environments. · The credit values of GPOs 2 and 5 were modified to more accurately reflect the time taken to learn, practice, and be assessed for the skills aligned to GPOs. · The qualification credit value remains unchanged at 120 credits. · A new version of the qualification was published. |
