Summary of review and consultation process

Consultation took place between November 2019 and August 2020. Feedback from stakeholders ranging from employers, TEOs, and perspectives from general practice, out of hours GP services, community and practice nursing, community midwife and health visitor services, family planning or sexual health clinics, Iwi and Pasifika providers, Whānau Ora providers, and acute brain injury unit services indicated that the qualification remains fit for purpose and meets the needs of graduates, with some minor changes and amendments.

The consultation consisted of three phases:

1.       Survey,

2.       Video conference or telephone consultation,

3.       Final review of the recommended changes.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         The qualification was updated to align to the current listing requirements.

·         Changes were made to the strategic purpose, employment pathway, general conditions for programmes, and to Graduate Profile Outcomes (GPOs).

·         The credit values of GPO2 and 4 were modified. GPO2 increased in value to allow for adequate time to gain the requisite skills and cultural competencies to work respectfully with Māori. GPO4 decreased in value to better reflect the time taken to learn, practice and be assessed. The qualification credit value remains unchanged at 120 credits.

·         A shorter qualification review period was recommended by the qualification developer for December 2023 when it is anticipated that greater sector availability should exist without Covid-19 impacts, to engage more fully in a qualification review.

·         A new version of the qualification was published.
