Date new versions published                                                               March 2021

Planned review date                                                                              December 2025

Summary

As a result of the planned standards review cycle, MQS and the Whenua Whakaruruhau reviewed the Whenua unit standards to ensure they remain fit for purpose and meet the aspirations and needs of ākonga, as well as whānau, hapū and iwi.

In addressing issues identified during the review process, the Whakaruruhau recommended that fifteen unit standards, which were not being used, be expired without replacements.  Also, the Whakaruruhau deemed unit standards 16346 and 26728 were more relevant and better suited to the Māori Environmental Management domain, which sits in the Environment Māori subfield.  These standards were reclassified.

Main changes

The main changes that were made include the following:

·         15 standards were expired with no replacements.

·         Standards 16346 and 26728 were reclassified to the Environment Māori subfield, under the Māori Environmental Management domain.

·         Titles of some standards were changed in line with amendments made to the standards’ outcomes or to just better reflect the content of those standards.

·         Credits were changed for 11 standards (ten were increased, one was decreased) to better reflect the time requirements of those standards.

·         Guidance information in some standards have been reworded or added to clarify the intention of those standards.

·         Wording changes to some outcomes and performance criteria for relevancy, consistency and to provide clarity for ākonga and kaiako.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2023

The last date for assessment of the superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2023
