Summary

Following the Targeted Review of Qualifications, the National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacture (Level 3) was replaced by New Zealand Certificate in Timber Structure Manufacture (Level 3) with strands in Wall Frame Manufacture, and Roof Truss Manufacture [Ref: 4319].

The new unit standards were developed in consultation with the Timber Structure Manufacturing industry to determine the skills and knowledge required for graduates of the New Zealand Certificate and for use in programmes leading to this qualification.  Generally, the skills and knowledge in the existing standards do not meet current industry needs.

Consultation with the Timber Structure Manufacturing industry stakeholders was carried out from July-October 2020, and they were given a chance to feedback on the new unit standards.

Main changes

·      Eight Carpentry unit standards that no longer fit job role requirements were designated expiring.

·      Three Carpentry Theory unit standards that no longer fit job role requirements were designated expiring.

·      Ten new Carpentry unit standards were developed to meet industry role requirements for the new level 3 qualification.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2023
