Summary of review and consultation process |
The scheduled review of the Workplace Health and Safety qualifications commenced in July 2021. The review process included face to face meetings and a series of virtual meetings before the draft qualifications were posted on The Skills Organisation website for wider consultation and feedback. The stakeholder group consisted of training providers, health and safety associations, subject matter experts from both the private and government sectors, Iwi, and industry. Following the consultation meetings with stakeholders, changes made to the qualifications were then sent out for feedback by email to those who had expressed an interest in being part of the meetings. Wider consultation included Health and Safety Association New Zealand (HASANZ) who submitted the draft reviewed qualifications to their members, and those who were identified by NZQA as having programme approval. No significant changes were made to the overall outcomes of the qualifications but have instead considered a shift in thinking since the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 first came into legislation. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
- Strategic Purpose Statements, Graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) and credit values have been changed to ensure currency and fitness for purpose. The overall content and credits of the qualifications remain the same. - Evidence requirements for assuring consistency have been updated. - General conditions for programme have been updated to include elements of Tikanga and cultural awareness for communication; and updated references to international industry standards to reflect currency. - Education Pathway for the New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4) [Ref: 3534] has been changed to indicate that the qualification is a minimum requirement for entry to the New Zealand Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety Management (Level 6) [Ref: 3645]. |
