Summary of review and consultation process |
|
CTMES reviewed the Christian Studies qualifications in collaboration with and on behalf of its stakeholders, including CTMES members and Christian Studies programme owners representing different Christian faith denominations. Stakeholders were kept informed and invited to contribute during the stages of the review.
The purpose of the review was to ensure the suite remains relevant to current and future learners, is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the various Christian churches, their communities, wider organisations, employers and volunteers. The review aimed to identify any anomalies and ensure clarity, consistency and coherence.
A consultant was appointed to guide and manage the process, in consultation with the CTMES Executive Committee, to confirm the relevance and currency of the qualifications. The needs analysis which informed the initial development of these qualifications remains current.
There was a wide sector meeting via teleconference with CTMES’ stakeholders in June 2020 to start the review. An online survey was conducted. All stakeholders were consulted and invited to respond to the survey and provide feedback.
There was a wide sector meeting via teleconference in November 2020 to discuss the outcome of the survey and for further consultation. Changes to the current qualifications were made driven by the outcome of the consultation with members and NZQA clarification of issues and current requirements. Consistency Review reports of four of the five qualifications were also used to further inform and support the changes.
Changes to qualifications were sent to the stakeholders for approval and stakeholder attestations to demonstrate involvement in the qualifications review were collected.

Main changes resulting from the review |
|
The main changes resulting from the review were to clarify wider community settings and to simplify some of the language to ensure clarity, consistency and coherence.
Amendments were made to meet current NZQA requirements, including those around conditions relating to individual graduate outcomes and the placement of entry requirements under general conditions for programmes. The above changes strengthen the qualifications without changing their intent.
Specific changes: New Zealand Diploma in Christian Studies (Level 5) [Ref: 2793] An elective strand in Biblical Studies was added to create a pathway to the Biblical Studies strand in the New Zealand Diploma in Christian Studies (Level 6).

Learners should not be enrolled in programmes leading to the award of the replaced qualifications unless there is sufficient time available for them to meet the programme requirements before that version is discontinued.
Learners currently enrolled in programmes leading to version 1 of these qualifications may either complete the requirements by 31 March 2024 or transfer to version 2 of the qualification.
It is anticipated that no existing learners will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
