Summary

Following the completion of the review of the New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Living for Supported Learners (Level 1), with an optional strand in Skills for Working [Ref: 2853-1], which resulted in the removal of the optional strand and the creation of a new qualification New Zealand Certificate in Skills for Learning and Working, for Supported Learners (Level 1) [Ref: 4373-1]; unit standards in the Supported Learning - Personal, Community and Work Skills domain were reviewed to ensure currency and alignment with the reviewed qualification.

Consultation responses were minimal. However, stakeholders were very supportive of the changes made. The consultation period was from April to November 2020. In terms of general feedback, NQS had:

·      one request for standards for the 120 credit qualification;

·      expressions of support for the standards and for the changes from schools and the Health and Disability Commissioner’s Office.

Main changes

·      Standard 29298 was replaced by two new standards, 32927 and 32929, to make the Commitments and Routines components distinct, allocate more accurate credit values, and allow both additional opportunities for students beyond formal classroom teaching and flexibility appropriate to individual need and ability.

·      Titles were amended for standards 29304, 29305, 29306, 29307 and 29308 to either reflect the terms used in the reviewed qualifications, or to reflect refinement within the standards.

·      The credits for standards 29299, 29300, and 29305 have been increased to better reflect the time required to produce sustained performance for those standards.

·      Amendments were made to the wording of performance criteria and/or the definitions to reflect changes made to the reviewed qualifications and to clarify evidence requirements and ensure consistency.

Category C unit standard 29298 will expire at the end of December 2023

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2023
