Summary of review and consultation process |
In late 2021, a review of the Aeronautical Engineering qualifications commenced. As part of the review, the possibility of creating a pathway between the Aeronautical Engineering sector and the specialist Aerospace sector, and vice versa was identified, following the creation in 2020 of an Aerospace Apprenticeship utilising an Aeronautical Engineering qualification. Consultation took place to ensure current practice and regulations were being met, and any gaps were identified and addressed. Advice on technical content was provided by the Aeronautical Engineering Industry Advisory Group, which informed the qualifications, as well as considering programme design. The Aeronautical Engineering Industry Advisory Group included providers, workplaces, Industry Association, and the Regulator. An initial in-person meeting was held, followed up by additional email consultation and endorsement. Two qualifications were identified with zero usage, and the decision was made to expire these without replacement. A new qualification was developed to meet the needs of the Aerospace Engineering sector, with the structure of the qualification allowing for further development of programme components without affecting the qualification. Consultation was carried out involving the wider Aeronautical Engineering Industry Advisory Group, where full support was given. |
