Summary

As a result of TRoQ (Targeted Review of Qualifications), the New Zealand Certificate in Trowel Trades (Level 4) with strands in Brick and Block Laying, Floor and Wall Tiling, Proprietary Plaster Cladding Systems, Ferro-cement Tank Manufacture, Refractory Installation, and Solid Plastering (with optional strands in Fixing Cavities and Substrates, and Decorative Mouldings) [Ref: 3137-1] replaced:

·         National Certificate in Brick and Block Laying (Level 4) [Ref: 1356],

·         National Certificate in Floor and Wall Tiling (Level 4) [Ref: 0726],

·         National Certificate in Proprietary Plaster Cladding Systems (Level 4) with strands in Rebated Fibre Cement, Lightweight Fibre Cement, and External Insulation Finishing Systems (EIFS) [Ref: 0786],

·         National Certificate in Refractory Installation (Level 3) [Ref: 1355], and the

·         National Certificate in Solid Plastering (Level 4) with an optional strand in Specialist Mouldings and Decorative Work [Ref: 0725].

New unit standards reflecting the New Zealand Certificate qualification Specifications were registered in September 2018 in the Brick and Block Laying, Refractory Installation, Precast Concrete, Floor and Wall Tiling, Proprietary Plaster Cladding Systems, and Solid Plastering domains to support programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate.  A review of existing standards in the domains listed above did not occur at the time of registering the new unit standards.

The Brick and Block Laying, and Refractory Installation domain unit standards included in this review have been used by two providers in now expired programmes leading to National Certificate qualifications.  Consultation with industry, Te Pukengā Work Based Learning (WBL), BCITO WBL, WelTec, and other providers with consent to assess these domains confirm that the unit standards in this review will be expired, except for unit standard 6088,which is still currently required.

Main changes

·      24 unit standards in the Brick and Block Laying domain have been designated expiring.

·      8 unit standards in the Refractory Installation domain have been designated expiring.

·      Current legislation and NZ Standards have been updated in unit standard 6088, and minor wording changes to Outcome 2, and merging of Performance Criteria 3.1 and 3.2.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2024

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is 31 December 2024
