Summary of review and consultation process

A technical advisory group (TAG) was formed from industry and providers with consent to assess the unit standards specific to Explosive Atmospheres.  Information was posted on the Waihanga Ara Rau website and stakeholders informed by email.

The TAG considered the need for a New Zealand qualification given the alternative training available.   Industry representatives said they would support a New Zealand qualification if it was available for a reasonable cost and time commitment.

The recommendations of the TAG were posted on the Waihanga Ara Rau website and endorsed by Waihanga Ara Rau’s internal approval process.

Main changes resulting from the review

The qualification was updated to the latest NZQA template.

The Installation optional strand outcome was included in the core of the qualification and the optional strand in Explosion-Protected Electrical Equipment Installation was removed.

The Explosion-Protected Electrical Equipment Inspection, and Explosion-Protected Electrical Equipment in Underground Mines, optional strands, were removed. The Technical Advisory Group recommends they are redeveloped as micro-credentials at a later stage.

The qualification credits were dropped from 50 to 40  and outcome credit value were revised to reflect the skills and knowledge outlined.
