Summary of review and consultation process |
Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the qualifications listed above. A technical advisory group (TAG) was formed from industry and providers with consent to assess the unit standards specific to Electronics Technology. Information was posted on the Waihanga Ara Rau website and stakeholders informed by email. The collated feedback from various stakeholders from ITOs, government agencies, industry employers and electronic technicians/engineers indicated that the rationale and the need for the above qualifications need to be reassessed. The TAG considered the need for the 40 credit qualifications given that schools have shifted their focus to NCEA and hence focussed on the standards rather than the qualifications. · Consultation with the Skills ITO on the History and Rationale of the qualifications highlighted that the quals were valued in the earlier days but now providers are focused on the provision of standards rather than qualifications. · Our TAG members from the secondary school space highlighted that offering a 40-credit unit standard qualification would be challenging in the school system. · We also received similar feedback from our consultation with the Lead Advisors of Secondary/Tertiary Pathways, Ministry of Education. · Representatives from the Industry Connection of Excellence (ICE) which is the receiver and provider of the suite of electro technology qualifications from the Skills Organisation have also confirmed that both the qualifications are redundant. · In addition to the above points, there are also no approved programmes supporting these qualifications and hence there are no graduates or trainees. · All the above discussions have led to the conclusion that these qualifications are redundant.
